At Myaree Ceramics, we spend our time recommending tiles, thinking about tiles and swooning over our favourite new trends.
Over the past few years, simple and clean looks have been the go-to, with timeless styles such as subway tiles and monochrome tiles remaining on trend. You just have to look at every trendy restaurant and bar to catch a glimpse of this simple yet sophisticated aesthetic.
However, in 2019, we’ve seen block pastel tones, patterns and textures make their way onto the scene and grow in popularity, giving interior designers and homeowners some new inspiration.
So whether you’re building your home, doing some home renovations or looking for an on-trend update for your wall or floor, you should keep these tile trends of 2019 on your radar.
Pastel Tiles
Pastels are here to give your room that contemporary look, but with an added ‘wow’ factor. Gone are the neutral colours, such as grey and magnolia, to make room for paler shades, such as peach, dusty rose, lavender and mint.
These colours may be reminiscent of the 1970s, but they give the typically earthy tones of yesteryear a modern twist.
Hexagonal or square shaped tiles are a popular choice for pastel hues, with the colour palette popular with those looking to create an open, bright space with a touch of elegance.
3D Tiles
If your bathroom in on the smaller side and you want the illusion of space, you can’t go past the allure of 3D tiles.
3D tiles are textured and can give your space a sophisticated, artistic look. These tiles work great as a feature wall as they are incredibly eye-catching – definitely one of our favourite tile trends of 2019.
Wood-Look Tiles
Installing real timber flooring in your home can be pricey, not to mention hard to maintain!
Wood-look tiles offer the flowing, natural look of wood without the price tag or the cost of upkeep. With technological advancements improving the design and manufacture of these tiles, current wood-look tiles could easily be mistaken for the real thing; they are certainly the smarter alternative to the real deal.
Wood-look tiles also come with a range of benefits, including a long life span, versatility, simple maintenance, environmentally friendly, value for money. The tiles are a staple in Europe, particularly as they come in a range of colours and designs to replicate the sometimes distressed, knotted and uneven tones of real wood!
Penny Tiles
Penny tiles were a popular choice in homes throughout the early 20th century and have seen a recent resurgence in restaurants, cafes and bars, as well as in on-trend homes.
These small, round tiles are incredibly versatile; they come in traditional ceramic, porcelain, glass and metal, and can be as minimalist or as eccentric as you like. Penny tiles are a popular choice for wet areas as they are easy to maintain and even better, they are anti-slip!
Penny tiles are a stark contrast to the subway tile; however, these two trendy tiles are perfect companions. Many homeowners opt to use subway tiles on the walls of their bathroom, with penny tiles used for flooring or as a stand out feature. Like other mosaic-type tiles, penny tiles are best for spaces without much natural light.
Glass
The use of glass in mosaics dates back to as early as 2500BC, however, it wasn’t until 3rd century BC where some admirable innovation saw glass created into tiles by artisans in Greece, Persia and India.
Fast-forward to today and you can find glass tiles in a variety of shapes, colours and sizes; it is a popular choice for tiles used in splashbacks, bath surrounds and feature walls due to their easy maintenance and stunning looks.
