Diverse Range of Bathroom Tiles in the Market
There are a lot of things to consider when choosing the right tiles for your bathroom. Even if you’ve got the perfect bath, taps, sink and lights, it’s the tiles that really take your bathroom design to the next level.
With a huge variety of tiles on the market, from big to small, textured to smooth, round to square, light to dark and everything in between, how do you know which tile will perfectly finish off your bathroom?
At Myaree Ceramics, our professional team can help you choose the bathroom tiles, design and grout that will take your bathroom from run-of-the-mill and drab, to stylish and immaculate.
Bathroom Tile Size and Shape
When it comes to choosing the tile size and shape, the general rule of thumb is the larger the room, the larger the tile needs to be. It’s actually thought that large tiles in a small bathroom can make the room look even smaller!
In small bathrooms, one trick you can try is to use square tiles laid on the floor in a diagonal pattern. This pattern creates a bit of an optical illusion, making your bathroom appear bigger than it is.
If your bathroom has dominant angles or curves, we recommend using smaller tiles or mosaics to tile your space. Mosaic tiles come in a variety of sizes, shapes, textures and materials, so they are perfect for bringing your space some pizzazz and matching those curves at the same time.
Matching Proportions
If you’re looking to work with different tiles in your space, use no more than three different types of tiles across your flooring, walls and statement pieces. Using more than three can make your space seem chaotic and mismatched.
Even if you’re still meeting that golden number three rule, take the time to make sure that all your different tiles work together, especially if they’re of different sizes. If the grout lines on the sets of tiles match up correctly, it will create a more uniform effect and a subtler flow from one tile design to the next.
It is also important to think about things such as any strong patterns or decorative elements in your home, as well as the colour scheme used throughout the rest of your home. You want your bathroom to have its own “wow” factor, while still complimenting the rest of your home.
Grout – Tile Glue
When you visit a tile showroom, like Myaree Ceramics, you’ll find that mosaics are usually displayed without the grout between each tile. However, be aware that when the tiles are laid in your bathroom, grout will need to be used between tiles to hold them together.
While it may not seem like it, grout actually has a tremendous impact on the final appearance of your tiles. If you want to create a subtler, more seamless flow from one tile to the next, you can use a grout colour that matches the tile or is similar in colour.
You can also create a more striking look by using a contrasting grout colour, which will create a strong definition around each tile. This can be great for a feature wall or set of feature tiles in your bathroom.
Allowing for Natural Light
If the bathroom is small, or lacks natural light, you should use lighter tiles, such as a white, cream or light grey, as they’ll reflect any light in the room better than dark tiles would.
Using lighter-coloured tiles on your walls can also make your ceiling look higher, creating the illusion of a larger space.
When it comes to perfecting your bathroom’s fit-out and design, there is more to consider than just the colour of tiles. After taking into account all of the above, you still have the task of choosing the right material to suit your project and budget!
